Led from Swansea University, the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) databank is an internationally-recognised research group that works to anonymise and link routinely collected data from the NHS and other sources in a safe and secure way, for the purposes of supporting health and social care research.

The Infrastructure Support Group will:

  • increase and improve the flows of routine data into the SAIL databank, in consultation with NHS organisations and other public sector bodies;
  • enhance the development of new methods and techniques to link and manage large-scale datasets for research in order for Wales to remain at the forefront of health informatics research;
  • provide robust, assured processes for the safeguarding of individual, linked data for research; and
  • provide an effective model of collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders for safe and secure access to SAIL databank to support health and social care research.
