Research Governance Framework

The Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care in Wales outlines the principles of good governance that apply to all research undertaken within the remit of the Minister for Health and Social Services for Wales.

Please note: An additional sentence is added to 2.1.1 to clarify that the requirements of ethical review in the Governance Arrangements for Research Ethics Committees (GAfREC) supersede the requirements of the Research Governance Framework.

 Work towards a single UK framework for research

Work has been ongoing with the Health Research Authority (HRA), Welsh Government and the devolved nations through the Research Governance Framework Steering Group to review the Research Governance Frameworks held across the UK, with the ambition to have a single UK framework for research.

Consultation on the UK policy framework for health and social care research

On 18 December 2015, the Welsh Government, in conjunction with the HRA and the devolved administrations, launched a public consultation on a new UK policy framework for health and social care research.

The consultation document has been published on the Welsh Government website.

Draft UK Framework for Health and Social Care Research 

The draft UK Framework for Health and Social Care Research was published by the Health Research Authority for a period of informal comment. 

Four responses were submitted to the Welsh Government and have been analysed as part of the responses received by the Health Research Authority and the other devolved nations. 

The four responses received were:

  • Bangor University
  • Care Council for Wales
  • Health and Care Research Wales Support Centre (formerly NISCHR AHSC)
  • Health and Care Research Wales Support Centre (formerly NISCHR AHSC)

Draft UK framework for Health and Social Care Research – Informal Comments

The report providing the analyses of all responses received was published by the Health Research Authority.
