Professor Hood is Interim Director of the South East Wales Clinical Trials Unit and Research Design and Conduct services. She is Chair of the Health and Care Research Wales Portfolio Group. Kerry has a degree and PhD in statistics and has specialised in primary care since her 1997 appointment as the first lecturer in statistics at the University of Wales College of Medicine’s general practice department. Since setting up the South East Wales Trials Unit in 2006 she has worked more broadly, but her main focus has still been in primary care.
Professor Hood has been and is currently involved with a wide range of research projects (including collaborations with the Universities of Bangor, South Wales, Southampton, Swansea, Leeds, York and Bristol). She is currently collaborating with institutions across Europe which include R-GNOSIS, (7th framework programme) and RAPP-ID, (IMI). Her main research interests are in randomised trials, outcome measure development, and method comparisons. Professor Hood sits on several funding panels and is also a reviewer for the National Institute for Health Research, Health Technology Assessment, Public Health Research and AR UK. She has published over 150 peer reviewed publications and currently holds over £25m worth of research grants as a co-applicant.
