Entries are now invited for the 2020 Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Achievement Award.
For the fourth year running we are looking to present an award to identify, promote, and celebrate the excellent public involvement taking place across the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure. UK Standards for Public Involvement in Research will provide the foundation for the 2020 award.
Entries should comprise a detailed description of excellence in public involvement in research and how one or more of the UK Standards have informed your work. We are looking for examples of where researchers have considered the full breadth of the landscape of public involvement in their recruitment of public members, and thereafter how public members were supported, and fully and effectively involved over the course of the opportunity. Examples could highlight, for instance, the purpose of involving the public, steps taken to ensure public involvement was meaningful and relevant, how the public were involved in shaping the research, and the difference made and/or the impact of the public involvement on the research, including any positive effects on the involved public themselves. Examples of innovative public involvement are also welcomed. We anticipate that entries will make clear reference to how they used the UK Standards to help guide their description.
Consistent with last year, the winner will be announced at the Health and Care Research Wales Conference, to be held this year on 7 October.
Entries are invited from all elements of Health and Care Research Wales, including research teams and researchers holding individual awards. Entries must reflect activity undertaken within the Health and Care Research Wales community, and must have occurred since 2016, when the UK Standards were first introduced. Adjudication will be undertaken by a cross-Health and Care Research Wales panel, incorporating public members of the UK standards partnership. Scoring criteria will be derived from the UK Standards for Public Involvement.
Shortlisted entrants will be notified by email in advance of the Health and Care Research Wales Conference on 7 October 2020.
