Public Involvement Achievement Award 2018

18 June 2018

Following the success of the inaugural 2017 Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Achievement Award, entries are now invited to the 2018 competition.

The recently launched National Standards for Public Involvement in Research provide the foundation for the 2018 award. The award is designed to identify, promote, and celebrate the excellent public involvement taking place across the Health and Care Research Wales Infrastructure.

Entries should comprise a detailed example of excellence in public involvement in research, focusing on Standards 1 (Inclusive Opportunities) and 2 (Working Together). We are looking for examples of where researchers have considered the full breadth of the landscape of public involvement in their recruitment of public members, and thereafter how public members were supported, and fully and effectively involved over the course of the opportunity. Examples could highlight, for example, the purpose of involving the public, steps taken to ensure public involvement was meaningful and relevant, how the public were involved in shaping the research, and the difference made and/or the impact of the public involvement on the research, including any positive effects on the involved public themselves. Examples of innovative public involvement are also welcomed. We anticipate that entries will make clear reference to the National Standards and associated Indicators to help guide their example.

Consistent with last year, the winner will be announced at the Health and Care Research Wales Conference, to be held this year on 25 October.

Entries are invited from all elements of Health and Care Research Wales, including research teams and researchers holding individual awards. Entries must reflect activity undertaken within the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure/workforce/community, and must have occurred since 2016. Adjudication will be undertaken by a cross-Health and Care Research Wales panel, incorporating members of the Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Delivery Board. Scoring criteria will be derived from the National Standards for Public Involvement.
