Importance of health and social care research in Wales underlined with new funding commitment

9 November 2017

The importance of health and social care research in Wales has been underlined with a major funding commitment.

Funding for all elements of the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure has been renewed for a further two years, which will support the important work of the organisation’s Centres, Units, Infrastructure Support Groups and Clinical Trials Units.

The announcement was made recently by Vaughan Gething, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport, who highlighted the importance of continued support and investment for research in Wales.

The funding has been awarded by Health and Care Research Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government.

Health and Care Research Wales Director, Professor Jonathan Bisson, said: “The renewal of funding from the Welsh Government acknowledges the work Health and Care Research Wales Centres, Units, Infrastructure Support Groups and Clinical Trials Units have done to contribute to generating the evidence base through researching health and care related issues.

“I am confident they will continue to deliver excellent work that has a positive impact on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of people in Wales in the coming two years and beyond.”
