To recognise and celebrate excellent public involvement from across Health and Care Research Wales, entries are invited to the first Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Achievement Award competition. The winner will be announced at the Health and Care Research Wales Annual Conference on 5 October 2017. Selected case studies will be collated into a publicly available resource of examples of excellent public involvement from across Health and Care Research Wales.
Entries are invited from all elements of Health and Care Research Wales, including research teams and researchers holding individual awards. A broad range of public involvement case studies are eligible, including, but not limited to, examples of public involvement in research conduct, delivery, dissemination, impact generation, grant application, and governance arrangements. Your entry should be an in-depth description of a single example of excellence in public involvement (not, for example, an overview of how public involvement is broadly implemented within a Research Centre or Unit).
Your application should clearly demonstrate consideration of, and reflection on all relevant equitable and ethical considerations in relation to public involvement. You should demonstrate how the public involvement in your entry was meaningful and relevant, and clearly explain how and why the public were involved, at what stage(s) and for what purpose. You should clearly explain the mechanisms underlying the involvement (e.g. recruitment, training, and support), and provide evidence of the positive impact that involving the public made, including any positive effects on the involved public themselves. You should also make clear where public involvement has been implemented in innovative ways. Please use lay language throughout your application, avoiding technical terms, jargon and acronyms.
Your entry must reflect activity undertaken within the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure/workforce/community, and must have occurred during the current funding period (2015-present). Adjudication will be undertaken by a cross Health and Care Research Wales panel, incorporating members of the Health and Care Research Wales Public Involvement Delivery Board, and using scoring criteria developed from the draft National Standards for Public Involvement.
