A call for applications for Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers, offering up to £30,000 has been launched.
These grants, from the Academy of Medical Sciences, are offering funding over 1-2 years for research consumables, to support clinical lecturers to gather data and strengthen future bids for long-term funding opportunities.
The scheme was launched in October 2008 and is supported by partners including Wellcome Trust, British Heart Foundation, Arthritis Research, the Medical Research Council in 2013, the Royal College of Physicians and Diabetes UK.
It has supported approximately 387 Clinical Lecturers through 17 rounds of funding, with grants totalling nearly £11 million.
Dr Owen Pickrell was awarded the grant in December 2016 and said: “The grant has been very useful in providing the funds to continue with some of my post-doctoral research in using natural language processing for epilepsy research. It has also given me the opportunity to meet and make contact with other similar people within the academy.
“As an early-career researcher I have found it difficult to apply for and obtain funding so far but having been awarded this grant is making the process of applying for additional funding easier. I would strongly recommend anyone who is eligible to apply.”
The deadline for applications is 16 March 2018.
