The Swansea University led National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research aims to make Wales a world leader in population health science by generating an evidence base for public health policies, services and interventions and optimising take up on a scale that makes a population level impact.

The Centre will have a particular focus on population health science in the priority policy areas of children and young people, and the promotion and maintenance of health through an extended working life.

The Centre will:

  • support and enhance a high-performing, well connected, collaborative, interdisciplinary population health and social care research community in Wales;
  • provide a platform to increase external grant capture;
  • increase the number of large-scale, methodologically-rigorous studies addressing the health, wellbeing and social care of the population in Wales; and
  • shorten the translational gaps between knowledge discovery and population impact by conducting research across the themes of health informatics and applied epidemiology, public health improvement and knowledge transfer.
