Course Outline:

This half day course is part of the public involvement and engagement training programme, following the introduction e-learning module found via this link https://www.healthandcareresearch.gov.wales/public-involvement-training/

The course is aimed at both researchers and members of the public:

**For researchers this course will help improve your understanding of user/public involvement in research and how this will benefit your research.

**For members of the public this course will help increase your understanding of user/public involvement in the research process and to expand your research knowledge to help your role.

This interactive course includes an overview of the research cycle and lay involvement, a discussion of service user roles and responsibilities and practical tips for effective involvement.

The format of the course will include presentations, group work and discussion.

Please note a certificate of attendance will only be issued if delegates complete all elements of the training.

Learning outcomes:

  • To identify the benefits of public involvement, where people are not the subjects, but are working with researchers to plan, manage and carry out research
  • To outline the journey of involvement in research, starting with a general introduction and overview
  • To relate the different ways in which to become involved in research and the different settings to help make a difference using individual skills
