Course Outline:

Excellent communication skills are essential to ensuring high-quality practice in informed consent and recruitment into research studies. This full day course is aimed at healthcare professionals involved in the recruitment of patients into research studies, for example, research nurses, clinical studies officers, medics and clinical nurse specialists.

This full day course is structured around filmed consultations with clinicians and patients (actors role-playing patients and relatives). The course covers information needs of research participants, communicating about randomisation, giving complex information and provides resources for skills development.

Places on this course are strictly limited to ensure in depth interaction and discussion. For this reason, it is essential that delegates complete all elements of the day.

Please note a certificate of attendance will only be issued if delegates complete all elements of the training.

Following the training, participants will be able to: 

  • have a raised awareness of breadth and depth of communication issues surrounding the conduct of research within healthcare;
  • explore strategies for developing communication skills in a variety of care settings;
  • reflect on personal communication skills in recruiting to studies and development of strategies for improvement.
